Treat Your Cat to Some Homemade Goodies!

(If you want to see a close-up of me in my chef's hat, just click on the picture for a bigger view of me!)

Chef Creamsicle here! Do you felines out there ever get tired of the same old grub? Once in a while it's nice to have a special homemade treat!

Here are a couple of my favorite recipes, so feel free to pass these on to the humans in your life.

Remember though - not all kitties should have these as some are on special diets so ensure it's OK with your humans. And don't forget...keep those paws, noses, whiskers and tails away from the oven!

Cheesy Snacks
3/4 cup white flour
3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
5 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
1/4 cup plain yogurt
1/4 cup cornmeal
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Combine cheeses and yogurt. Add flour and cornmeal. If needed, add a small amount of water to create a nice dough. Knead dough into a ball and roll to 1/4 inch. Cut into one inch sized pieces and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake for 25 minutes. Makes 2 dozen.

Chicken Cookies
1 1/2 cups shredded cooked chicken
1/2 cup chicken broth
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/3 cup cornmeal
1 tablespoon soft margarine
Preheat the oven to 350 Fahrenheit. Combine chicken, broth and margarine and blend well. Add flour and cornmeal. Knead dough into a ball and roll to 1/4 inch. Cut into one-inch sized pieces and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Makes 18 cookies.

(Special thanks to Angel Toni from Missouri for posting a comment - asking if corn and wheat products can be substituted for cats who cannot tolerate these products. Yes, by all means you can substitute these with gluten free options like potato or rice flour/meal instead!)

If you're not the only feline in the home, be sure you share with your siblings!

Enjoy,

  1. Creamsicle,
Thank you for sharing some treat recipes. I wonder if there are any treats we could make without cornmeal or flour, or if these could be adjusted for a kitty who has trouble with those. I was able to process some rice or barley, but could not have anything with corn or wheat. Maybe a thought for a future blog, if you find any good recipes! I look forward to your next blog!

  2. Hi Angel Toni!
What a great question, and thanks for checking out our blog! Yes, these recipes can be adjusted for kitties who cannot eat corn or wheat. You can simply substitute gluten free products like rice or potato flour/meal. These are available in specialty sections at your local supermarket so just get your human to pick these products up instead. What a great question Angel Toni!

Thanks again for reading, and keep checking out the blog! I will be posting often.

  3. Chef Cream you look tuckered out in the pix. Was it from all the cooking or was it from all the sampling?? I'll have mom try these though, I can't get enough of treats!
